stereographs

Paired depth images

Stereographs are paired photographs taken from slightly different angles, designed to create a three-dimensional image when viewed through a stereoscope.

Popular in the Victorian era, they gave viewers the illusion of depth—landscapes, landmarks, and scenes appearing to recede into space.

The format was an early form of immersive visual entertainment, a 19th-century predecessor to 3D media.
