Capturing spectral images
Spirit photography is the purported capturing of ghosts or spirits of the dead in photographs.
The practice emerged in the nineteenth century, when photographers claimed their images showed deceased relatives hovering near living subjects.
Though repeatedly exposed as fraud—typically double exposures or manipulated negatives—spirit photography attracted believers during the Spiritualist movement: The medium offered spirit photography sessions after the séance.
