Automatic bank transfer
A standing order is an instruction that remains in effect until canceled.
In banking, it's a directive to make regular automatic payments of a fixed amount: I set up a standing order for the rent.
In military or organizational contexts, standing orders are permanent rules or procedures governing routine operations.
In commerce, it's a recurring purchase arrangement: The library has a standing order for all new titles in the series.
