at ease

Comfortable and calm

At ease describes a state of comfort or relaxation, free from anxiety or awkwardness: She felt at ease among old friends.

In military contexts, at ease is a command allowing soldiers to relax from attention—feet apart, hands behind back—while remaining in place: The sergeant called "At ease" and the recruits shifted stance.

To put someone at ease is to make them comfortable.
