fluxing

In continuous motion

Fluxing is the process of applying flux—a substance that promotes the flow of solder or helps remove oxides during metalworking.

In soldering and brazing, fluxing prepares surfaces so molten metal bonds cleanly: After fluxing the joint, he applied the solder.

The term also appears in glassmaking and ceramics, where flux lowers melting points.
