disassembling

Breaking into pieces

Disassembling is taking something apart into its component pieces—the reverse of assembling.

You might disassemble furniture to move it or disassemble a machine to repair it.

The word also means feigning or concealing one's true motives, though this sense is usually spelled dissembling: He was disassembling when he claimed ignorance of the plan.
