skirting boards
Floor-wall trim pieces
Skirting boards are the narrow wooden or plastic strips that run along the base of interior walls where they meet the floor.
They serve both practical and aesthetic purposes: covering the joint between wall and floor, protecting the wall from scuffs and furniture bumps, and providing a finished look to a room.
The term is primarily British; Americans typically say baseboard.
The painter taped off the skirting boards before rolling the walls.
