thresholds

Points of entry

Thresholds is the plural of threshold—the strip of wood or stone at the bottom of a doorway, or more figuratively, a point of entry or beginning: on the threshold of a new era.

A threshold also marks a boundary where something changes or takes effect: pain threshold, tax threshold.

In science and engineering, thresholds indicate critical values that trigger responses: The sensor activates when temperature crosses certain thresholds.
