skirting-boards

Room's bottom edging

Skirting-boards are the narrow wooden or plastic strips running along the base of interior walls where they meet the floor.

They cover the joint between wall and floor, protecting the wall from scuffs and furniture.

The term is primarily British; Americans say baseboards.

The painter taped off the skirting-boards before rolling the walls.
