bail jumping
Absconding after release
Bail jumping is the criminal offense of failing to appear in court after being released on bail.
The defendant has posted bond or been released on their own recognizance but then skips the required court date: He was charged with bail jumping after fleeing to Mexico.
The offense typically adds charges on top of whatever the defendant was originally facing.
