self-portraits
Paintings of oneself
Self-portraits are artistic representations artists make of themselves—paintings, photographs, drawings, or sculptures depicting their own likeness.
The form has a long tradition in visual art, from Rembrandt's dozens of self-examinations to selfies on social media.
The exhibition featured self-portraits by women artists.
The term extends metaphorically to any creative work that reveals its maker: The novel reads as a self-portrait.
