short arm
Brief upper limb
Short arm refers to something shorter than a corresponding long arm—most commonly in phrases like short arm of the law (limited reach of authority) or the short arm of a chromosome (the shorter segment on either side of the centromere).
In military slang, a short-arm inspection is a medical examination of male genitals for signs of venereal disease, where "short arm" is a euphemism for penis.
