shoe trees

Footwear shape keepers

Shoe trees are foot-shaped devices inserted into shoes to help them maintain their shape when not being worn.

Typically made of wood (especially cedar, which absorbs moisture and odors) or plastic, they stretch the shoe slightly to prevent creasing and curling: He slipped the cedar shoe trees into his dress shoes after work.
