cordwainer

New shoe maker

A cordwainer is a shoemaker—specifically one who makes new shoes from fresh leather, as distinguished from a cobbler, who repairs them.

The distinction is largely historical; today the word survives mainly in guild names and trade associations: the Worshipful Company of Cordwainers.
