shell script
Command-line program file
A shell script is a file containing a sequence of commands for a computer's command-line interpreter to execute.
Shell scripts automate repetitive tasks, configure systems, or chain together operations: I wrote a shell script to back up my files every night.
The term comes from the "shell"—the program that interprets commands typed at a terminal.
