batch job
Scheduled processing task
A batch job is a computing task that runs without user interaction, typically scheduled to execute during off-peak hours.
Unlike interactive programs that respond to real-time input, batch jobs process large volumes of data or perform routine operations automatically: The payroll batch job runs every Friday night.
The term dates from early computing when programs were submitted in batches on punch cards.
