shakti

Hindu cosmic force

In Hindu tradition, shakti is the primordial feminine energy or creative power that animates the universe.

The concept represents the dynamic, active principle of reality, often paired with a passive masculine counterpart.

In tantric practice, shakti refers to spiritual energy believed to reside at the base of the spine: kundalini shakti rising through the chakras.

The term appears in yoga and New Age contexts to denote feminine divine power generally. (Capitalized Shakti is the goddess.)
