yang
Light, active force
Yang is the active, bright, masculine principle in Chinese philosophy, always paired with its complement yin.
Yang represents light, heat, movement, and assertiveness—the sun side of a mountain.
The two forces are interdependent, not opposed: The balance of yin and yang governs health.
In casual use, yang can mean the positive or active element of any pair. (Capitalized Yang is a common Chinese and Korean surname.)
