self-loading

Chambers rounds automatically

Self-loading describes a firearm that automatically chambers the next round after firing, using energy from the previous shot—typically recoil or gas pressure.

The shooter must pull the trigger for each shot but doesn't manually operate a bolt or lever: a self-loading pistol, self-loading rifle.
