muzzle-loading
Powder-down-barrel style
Muzzle-loading describes firearms that are loaded through the front end of the barrel rather than through a breech mechanism at the rear.
This was the standard method for guns from their invention until breech-loading designs became widespread in the mid-19th century.
Today muzzle-loading firearms are used primarily for historical reenactments, hunting seasons that restrict weapon types, and hobbyist shooting.
He prefers muzzle-loading rifles for deer season.
