pump action
Manual shotgun mechanism
Pump action describes a firearm mechanism where the shooter manually slides a grip back and forth to eject a spent cartridge and chamber a new round.
Most associated with shotguns: a pump-action shotgun.
The distinctive sound of racking a pump action—chunk-chunk—is iconic in film and often used for intimidation.
Also called slide action.
