self-destruction

Sabotaging one's own

Self-destruction is the act of destroying oneself or one's interests.

It can mean literal suicide, but more often describes behavior that sabotages one's own well-being, relationships, or success: His drinking was pure self-destruction.

A self-destruct mechanism causes something to destroy itself, as when a spacecraft is programmed to explode if it veers off course.
