envy

Begrudging another's fortune

Envy is resentful longing for what someone else has—their possessions, qualities, or good fortune.

Unlike jealousy, which fears losing what you have, envy wants what belongs to another: I envy her ability to speak five languages.

The feeling can be mild admiration or bitter covetousness.

As a verb, to envy is to feel this way: Don't envy the rich; they have their own troubles.
