seconding

Voicing formal agreement

Seconding is expressing support for something another person has proposed or said.

In formal meetings, seconding a motion allows it to proceed to discussion: The motion was seconded and passed unanimously.

More casually, seconding means agreeing with someone's statement or suggestion: I'm seconding that recommendation.

In British usage, seconding can also mean temporarily transferring an employee to another position or department.
