scroll wheel
Finger-spun navigation ring
A scroll wheel is the small rotating wheel on a computer mouse, positioned between the left and right buttons, used primarily to scroll up and down through documents and web pages.
Rolling it forward scrolls up; rolling it backward scrolls down.
Many scroll wheels also click inward as a middle mouse button.
Some mice feature horizontal scroll wheels or tilt functionality for side-to-side scrolling.
