bandleader

Group's musical director

A bandleader is the person who directs a musical band, typically standing at the front to conduct, set tempo, and cue musicians.

The term most often applies to jazz, swing, and big band music: Duke Ellington was one of the great bandleaders of the swing era.

A bandleader may also be the group's public face and principal performer.
