sabertooth

Ice Age predator

Sabertooth refers to prehistoric cats with elongated upper canine teeth, most famously the saber-toothed tiger (actually not a tiger but a separate lineage).

The teeth could extend several inches, used for piercing prey.

The term applies broadly to any animal with similar dentition: sabertooth salmon, sabertooth deer.

Often appears as saber-toothed or sabre-toothed as an adjective.
