saber-toothed tiger
Fanged ice predator
A saber-toothed tiger is an extinct cat with elongated upper canine teeth, technically called *Smilodon*.
Despite the name, these prehistoric predators weren't tigers—they belonged to a separate lineage that died out roughly 10,000 years ago.
The dramatic fangs, up to seven inches long, make them iconic figures in natural history museums and popular depictions of the Ice Age.
