sabertooth tiger
Ice Age predator
A sabertooth tiger is an extinct cat with elongated upper canine teeth, often depicted as a fierce prehistoric predator.
The most familiar species, Smilodon, roamed the Americas until about 10,000 years ago.
Despite the name, these animals were not closely related to modern tigers.
Also called sabertooth cat or saber-toothed tiger.
