rob

Take by force

To rob is to take property from someone by force or threat: They robbed the bank, He was robbed at gunpoint.

The victim of robbery is a person or place, not the thing taken—you rob a person of their wallet, not rob the wallet itself.

Informally, rob describes being cheated or overcharged: Twenty dollars for parking? What a robbery.

We was robbed is the classic protest against an unfair outcome.
