springbok

Pronking African antelope

A springbok is a medium-sized antelope native to southern Africa, known for its distinctive leaping behavior called pronking—repeatedly jumping high into the air with an arched back.

The name comes from Afrikaans words meaning "jumping buck." We watched springbok bounding across the savanna. (Capitalized Springbok refers to South African national teams.)
