larceny
Crime of stealing
Larceny is the legal term for theft—taking someone else's property without permission and with intent to keep it.
The law distinguishes between petty larceny (minor theft) and grand larceny (theft above a certain dollar amount, varying by jurisdiction).
Outside legal contexts, larceny can describe any act of stealing: The price they charged was practically larceny.
