ring system
Saturn's icy halo
A ring system is a disk of dust, ice, and rocky debris orbiting a planet, held in place by gravity.
Saturn's rings are the most famous example, but Jupiter, Uranus, and Neptune also have ring systems.
The term applies in chemistry as well, where it describes atoms bonded in closed loops, as in benzene's six-carbon ring system.
The spacecraft captured stunning images of the planet's ring system.
