Cassini Division
Saturn's ring gap
The Cassini Division is the largest gap in Saturn's rings, a dark band about 4,800 kilometers wide separating the bright A and B rings.
Visible through small telescopes, it appears empty but contains sparse ring material.
Named for astronomer Giovanni Cassini, who discovered it in 1675.
