moshpit

Concert collision area

A moshpit is an area near the stage at a rock or punk concert where audience members engage in moshing—aggressive, often chaotic physical movement including pushing, shoving, and slamming into one another.

The activity is consensual chaos: participants expect contact, and there's an unwritten code to help anyone who falls.

I lost my shoe in the moshpit.

Also spelled as two words: mosh pit.
