Lancet

British medical publication

A lancet is a small, pointed surgical blade used to make incisions or puncture skin—the kind used for blood draws or to drain abscesses.

The word extends to lancet windows and arches in Gothic architecture, which taper to a sharp point at the top. *The Lancet* is also a prominent British medical journal, named for the surgical instrument.
