retinopathy
Back-of-eye damage
Retinopathy is damage to the retina—the light-sensitive tissue at the back of the eye.
The term usually appears with a modifier indicating the cause: diabetic retinopathy results from blood vessel damage due to diabetes; hypertensive retinopathy from high blood pressure.
Left untreated, retinopathy can lead to vision loss or blindness.
