retinoscopy

Pupil light test

Retinoscopy is an eye examination technique where light is shone into the pupil and the reflection observed as lenses of different powers are placed before the eye.

The movement of the light reflex reveals refractive errors—nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism—allowing the examiner to determine a corrective prescription, often before the patient says a word.
