resettlement camps
Forced migration housing
Resettlement camps are facilities where populations are moved, often forcibly, by governments or authorities.
The term spans a range of situations: refugees may be placed in resettlement camps while awaiting permanent housing, but historically the phrase has also euphemized forced relocations and internment—Nazi "resettlement" meant deportation to concentration camps.
Thousands were transported to resettlement camps in the interior.
The word carries an inherent tension between its neutral surface and its frequent use to sanitize coercion.
