refugee crisis
Forced migration emergency
A refugee crisis is a situation where large numbers of people flee their home country due to war, persecution, or disaster, overwhelming the capacity of neighboring regions or international systems to receive them.
The term entered mainstream use during the 2015 European migration surge but applies to any mass displacement that strains resources and tests political will: The Syrian conflict triggered the worst refugee crisis since World War II.
