rehome
Place with family
To rehome an animal is to find it a new owner and living situation, typically when the current owner can no longer care for it: We had to rehome our dog when we moved overseas.
The term is gentler than "give away" and implies responsible placement.
Animal shelters and rescue organizations frequently use it: The shelter rehomed over 200 cats last year.
