regional power
Area's dominant nation
A regional power is a nation that exerts significant influence within its geographic area but lacks global reach.
Unlike superpowers, regional powers dominate their neighborhoods through military strength, economic weight, or diplomatic clout: Brazil is the regional power in South America.
The term often appears in foreign policy discussions about spheres of influence.
