imperial power
Dominion over territories
Imperial power is the authority and capacity of an empire to control territories, peoples, and resources beyond its original borders.
The term typically refers to the dominance exercised by major colonial powers—Britain, France, Spain—over vast portions of the globe: The decline of imperial power reshaped the twentieth century.
It can also describe any nation's expansionist influence: Critics accused the superpower of exercising imperial power through economic pressure rather than direct conquest.
