empowered
Able to act freely
Empowered describes having been given power, authority, or confidence.
Someone empowered to act has official authorization: The board empowered her to negotiate on their behalf.
More often, empowered suggests a psychological state—feeling capable and in control: The workshop left participants feeling empowered.
This softer sense dominates contemporary usage, appearing in self-help, marketing, and corporate contexts until the word risks meaning little more than "good about oneself."
