Magdalene
Witness to resurrection
Magdalene refers to Mary Magdalene, a follower of Jesus in the New Testament who witnessed his crucifixion and resurrection.
The name became associated with repentant prostitutes through a medieval tradition that conflated her with a sinful woman in the Gospels.
A Magdalene house or Magdalene asylum was an institution for "fallen women." The name also appears in collegiate contexts: Magdalene College at Cambridge and Magdalen College at Oxford (both pronounced "maudlin").
She played the Magdalene in the Easter pageant.
