rebreathe
Breathe recycled air
To rebreathe is to breathe air that has already been exhaled, inhaling it again rather than fresh air.
The term appears in medical and diving contexts where carbon dioxide buildup becomes dangerous: Divers must avoid rebreathing their own exhaust.
A rebreather is diving equipment that recycles exhaled air by removing carbon dioxide and adding oxygen.
