setpoint
Desired control level
A setpoint is a target value in a control system—the temperature a thermostat aims to maintain, the pressure a regulator tries to hold.
When conditions drift from the setpoint, the system adjusts to bring them back: The thermostat's setpoint is 72 degrees.
In physiology, setpoint describes the level the body naturally regulates toward, as with weight or body temperature.
