radiotelegraphy

Wireless dot-dash communication

Radiotelegraphy is the transmission of telegraph signals by radio waves rather than through wires.

Before voice communication became practical, this was the primary method of wireless communication—operators sent Morse code between ships and shore stations, or across continents.

The technique enabled the Titanic's distress calls and dominated long-distance communication through the early twentieth century.
