push shot

Cue ball nudge

A push shot is a shot in billiards or pool where the cue remains in contact with the cue ball longer than the instant of impact, pushing rather than striking it cleanly.

This is typically a foul.

In basketball, a push shot is a one-handed shot released with an upward pushing motion rather than a traditional arc: He banked in a push shot from the lane.
