object ball
Pocket-bound sphere
In cue sports like pool and snooker, the object ball is the ball a player aims to hit with the cue ball.
It's distinguished from the cue ball itself, which the player strikes directly.
In most games, the goal is to pocket the object ball or position it strategically: She lined up the cue ball for a clean shot at the object ball.
